Anchorians Cricket Club have just (2009) been promoted back up to Grade 2 of the Aberdeenshire Thistle Sports Grades. Our home games are played at the Duthie Park, Aberdeen, and at Sheddocksley, if there is something 'council-approved' going on at the Duthie Park.
We are always on the lookout for new players, so email us (simon.ward@abdn.ac.uk) if you fancy a game. We used to have a regular practice session at Duthie Park on the artificial wicket on Thursday evening from 6, but are now too old and busy for such things.
Anchorians Cricket Club was founded in 1933 in Aberdeen, Scotland by Bill Swan. Anchorians Cricket Club entered the Aberdeenshire Cricket Association Grades in the same year. The story is told that Bill Swan had been considering forming a cricket club for several years but early in 1933 he met the Secretary of the Association who informed him that entries for that season had to be handed in that week. Without hesitation, Bill entered a team, although there was no name for the club and, indeed, no players either! In his own inimitable way, Bill produced the name "Anchorians". The club was intended for serving and ex-members of the Boys`Brigade, hence the B.B. Anchor was the inspiration for the club name and logo. Some of our past history is on our 'original' web site, now a little out of date.
Anchorians have an existing site at www.anchorianscc.co.uk
